ABOUT US
Our story dates back to 1967, with historic roots in the heart of Salisbury.
The Batt Broadbent story began in 1967 when Solicitors Michael Broadbent and Robert Beecroft formed Batt Broadbent and Beecroft having been introduced to each other by John Batt. Although John Batt’s name remains, he never practised at the Firm at the time, although he did join as a Consultant many years later.
The Firm initially had offices on Minster Street in Salisbury and moved to the present offices in Castle Street in 1971. Nigel Brookes and Andrew Johnson joined the partnership from Lancashire and London via Bristol respectively, Robert Beecroft converted to the Bar and left to practise in London.
A growing practice with a specialist team
The practice grew, developing its client base in Salisbury and the surrounding area. Michael Broadbent was appointed the Registrar for the Salisbury Diocese in 1972, and he continued with his practice in non-contentious work until he retired.
Sue de Candole joined the practice in 1997 from a local firm, having trained and worked after qualification in Lincoln’s Inn in London. She became deputy Diocesan Registrar, head of Private Client and a partner in 2000.
Andrew Johnson succeeded as Diocesan Registrar for Salisbury following Michael Broadbent’s’ retirement and was subsequently also appointed the Registrar for Winchester Diocese. He continued his practice until he sadly died in 2015 and Sue de Candole replaced him as the Registrar.
Extending our reach into Chippenham
Andrew Hart joined the Firm in 1993 having trained and practiced in London and became a Partner in 2000.
Over the following decades, Batt Broadbent continued to expand, with Peter Warr joining in 2010 and subsequently becoming a partner in 2014. In 2013, Peter opened a second office in the thriving market town of Chippenham, offering professional services across a broad spectrum of clients.
Susan Atkinson joined Batt Broadbent in 2019 having relocated to the New Forest from the North West and became a partner in 2021.
